Healthy Living recently corresponded with Friendly Organic director Aynur Terzi about bringing green cleaning products to Turkey.
HL: How did Friendly Organic come about?
Terzi: This was my beautiful fate! I graduated as a chemical engineer from Istanbul Technical University in 2002. I went to Louisiana to work with a Computational Solid Mechanics (CSM) team at LSU during my study. At 2003, I started to work as a process engineer for Procter & Gamble. After eight years of intensive experience in the field of detergents and baby hygiene products, I learned a lot about the conventional detergents produced with many harsh and toxic chemicals. This was when I decided to develop possibilities to realize one day my dream: to develop and spread the use of natural, plant-based baby-care and cleaning products that work well and are affordable for all families.
HL: Why is Friendly Organic a good company to bring natural, organic cleaning products to Turkey?
Terzi: We are fulfilling all parameters for producing green products while being affordable. Starting from 2011, we have gained following certifications from leading European certification bodies: EcoControl in Germany, Vegan Society in the United Kingdom, and the BUAV Leaping Bunny in the United Kingdom. Our products are dermatologically tested on sensitive skins in the internationally accredited laboratory CHELAB in Italy.
HL: How long have the products been on the market in Turkey?
Terzi: As of June 2011 our products have been on the shelves.
HL: How have consumers responded to Friendly Organic products?
Terzi: They love them! With the high appreciations of the end consumers and through our dealer network, we have been able to present our products in the major baby stores, pharmacies and specialized websites.
HL: Why is Turkey a good market for Friendly Organic products?
Terzi: Turkish culture is bringing baby health in first place, and this facilitated to increase our market share.
HL: Will Friendly Organic expand beyond Turkey?
Terzi: Mothers are mothers everywhere! We have witnessed an overwhelming response from our clients in the 11 international and specialized fairs where we have exhibited since February 2011. We have a very strong presence in the Italian and Romanian markets through our exclusive distributors. Distributors in China, Poland, Korea, Singapore and Dubai are about to be announced, and by 2015, we are targeting to be present in more than 60 countries around the world.
